About

Nell Branum

Nell is a former editor and elementary school librarian who started writing curriculum for publication when she was in college, and has written consistently for all ages, preschoolers to adults, ever since.

Along the way, she finished college at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, married her awesome husband Jim who was a music minister, finished one graduate degree from seminary and another from library school, had three wonderful children, and now has nine extraordinary grandchildren.

For 43 years, Nell served alongside Jim in churches in Alabama, Texas, and California. When their children were small, she was a stay-at-home mom. Then she worked as a magazine editor for several years until she made a career change to become an elementary school librarian. During those years she earned her National Board Certification in library, was awarded Outstanding Media Specialist for her district, and was voted Second Mile Teacher by her faculty.

Nell retired a little early after her dad passed away so she could travel for the next five years with her mom, who was in her nineties at the time and gave presentations locally and across the country as Rosie the Riveter. Sadly, her mom passed away in 2021 at the age of 99, then Jim passed away eight months later. But Nell trusted that God somehow had a next chapter for her, and is now discovering the world of writing fiction for children, something she has always wanted to do.

One of her new favorite sayings is “I trust the next chapter because I know the Author.”
